June 25, 1876: Battle Of The Little Bighorn #otd #tdih

Also known as Custer’s Last Stand, this battle in southeastern Montana represented a defeat for US forces in the Great Sioux War of 1876. The US 7th Cavalry, led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, suffered numerous casualties fighting Native American forces led by Chief Crazy Horse and Chief Gall. A century and a half late, the Sioux still insist on their rights to occupy the Black Hills and have refused monetary compensation for their ancestral lands.
